When it comes to saving venue money, there is no place like home.  Your office or home turf is a wonderful venue to sell and entertain clients. It can be transformed in ways you may not initially imagine.

If an office or home turf transformation is not your vision, then consider other low cost public building options.  Good options include:

• Fire company banquet halls
• community centers
• libraries
• churches
• schools and community colleges

The venue availability and rental rates vary by entity.

VFW, Elks, Knights of Columbus or other civic groups may offer their event space for rental.

Let us not forget the great outdoors as an event venue. Perhaps it is the backyard of a private residence, a public flower garden or park that excites you.

I believe it was Bill Withers who sang it best “…winter, spring, summer or fall, all you got to do is call…you got a friend…”.

When it’s time to rent party equipment for graduations, holidays, the Super Bowl, etc., consider calling an existing friend to share the cost. Perhaps they are planning a party as well, and by adding your plans onto theirs, together you both can give the dream party.

Think of this as the piggyback method to affordable event planning.

For example, you can share the cost of a weekend rental. You take it one day and they the next day. Together, you can pick up the party rentals for one event, then relocate them for the next event and then return them. However you work out the logistics, the savings you each realize can be significant.

For you adventurous piggyback brides-to-be, try finding another bride-to-be with a wedding day next to yours. Perhaps a Saturday, if your wedding is Friday. Or perhaps a noon event if yours is an evening. You never know what may be possible, if you both are willing to work with the same event planner or party rental firm.

What a great time it is for me to carry my kids piggyback style. Since we were going the same way, I provide them a lift, which allowed them to save their energy for a later cowboy ride on their favorite bronco horse…my knee.

When it’s time to get immersed in your industry, where do you go? Where do you go to sharpen your skills and gain new ideas?

For me it was on the WeddingWire World Tour. The 2014 event I attended was in Washington DC after Fathers Day. This all day event refueled my interest in serving the wedding market, introduced me to some of the current industry thought leaders, and I found a treasure of ideas I can adopt for my business.

I also got to meet some of the leadership team at WeddingWire, my choice of the bridal portal and destination for brides and grooms- to-be. Of particular value was meeting my aligned WeddingWire account manager. She and I reviewed my storefront, advertizing and actionable business tools, that I’ll put in place to make your customer experience exceptional. Some examples are “contact us” and “make an appointment” buttons on every page of my website. Also I’ve added “customer reviews” on every website page.

It was great to meet, discuss, and live the dream with other wedding industry participants. I was thrilled by the networking opportunities. As a group they were focused to learn and shared experience and insights with me. The foundations for long term relationships and shared resources were set in place. These new resources will be further developed for my clients and partners.
